When my co-writer handed me the script for this I was astounded. "How did you know about the Vvorn Empire?" I said.

I remember "Vvorn" from an obscure 1970's sci-fi short story. I don't recall the title or author and I can't find it anywhere on the web. The plot was, an average shmoe gets swept away by some kind of cosmic gleep and deposited in a dimension where he finds aliens manipulating earth's history and causing wars and other bad things. He gets hold of a laser gun and confronts them and they try to explain something about "the Vvorn," but of course he pays no attention and blasts them. Then he takes over the controls and reworks 20th century events so the two world wars never happen and Hitler dies young. Then he transports himself back to earth where everything is pastoral peaches and cream. But it turns out the aliens were toughening up earth to defend itself against another alien race, the Vvorn, who proceed to run roughshod over this unprepared planet. So, peaceniks, argue with that!

My co-writer, however, insists he never read the story and made up the word "Vvorn."

As far as I know the tale was never adapted to the screen, so I couldn't find any images of the Vvorn. Instead I used the saucer men from Invasion of the Saucer Men, a movie I thought was awesome when I was ten. Later I figured out it wasn't, but still it was nice to see it inspired Morbo on Futurama.
